Hey guys! So I spent the past 5 summers lifeguarding at a country club in my hometown, which was lead me to create a facebook page about my experience. I’m sure there are many people out there who could relate. If you do, go like the page!!
Tinder — New Dating App or an Amusing Distraction for College Students?
What is it?
According to it’s description Tinder is a mobile app that finds out who likes you nearby, and connects you with them if you’re also interested. It’s all anonymous until someone you like, likes you back.
After downloading, users must log on through their . That way Tinder can create an account using a few of your profile pictures, age, location, and allow other Tinder users (of the sex you are interested in) to see if you share any mutual friends or interests with one another.
How I heard about Tinder:
I have recently discover the Tinder app on my iPhone after hearing about it from friends and seeing posts about it on my Twitter timeline and Facebook news feed.
Most of what I heard made it come across as a silly app that no one actually took seriously by trying to find their soul mate. So it seemed harmless and I thought I would give it a try.
My thoughts:
I have started using this app simply to find out what all the buzz was about. My first time using it I immediately saw that a bunch of my guy friends, past hookups, and even my ex was on Tinder! So it came across as entertaining at best. I had heard from some girls it was a bit creepy, but when I saw so many familiar faces my first time using it, I wrote it off as a good distraction when I’m bored in class or want to procrastinate my homework.
However, the more I’ve used it the more I can see what they meant by “creepy.” Tinder has taught me that just because someone has a pretty face, it doesn’t mean they are someone you want to be matched up with. Because when you are matched up with someone, that person is able to message you.
After the short time of using this app, I have experienced both amusing conversations and some that just made me feel uncomfortable, which resulted in me hitting the “block” button.
Summing it all up:
Tinder focuses on one main question – “hot or not?” It’s mostly entertaining, in an awkward sort of way…
The Pros versus the Cons Online Shopping
My online shopping addiction has officially made quite the dent on my bank accounts. I know I am not the only person out there who uses online shopping as not only a convenient method to shop, but as a means of procrastination online when you get bored with your Facebook and Twitter.
I’m writing this post to state the positives and the risks of online shopping since it has become very common all over the world. Due to our demanding schedules we are not always able to step out of the house for shopping. However, we all know that everything comes with its advantages and disadvantages.
Risks of Online Shopping:
- Unpredictable fitting
- Inexpensive purchases can end up costing a lot more. For instance, a $5 phone cases from Amazon can end up doubling in price once a transaction and handling fee are added.
- Privacy and data security may be compromised once customers hit the “pay” button.
- Once registering to a store’s website they will most likely be filling your email inbox everyday
- Product colors and sizes are not always what they seem to be when you see them blown up on your computer screen
- There is not always a refund policy. So if you are unsatisfied with a purchase you just wasted your money
Positives of Online Shopping:
- Easy to compare prices and find the best deals
- Don’t have to leave your house
- No checkout lines
- Easy to send gifts
- Able to purchase old or unused stuff at low prices
- Discreet purchasing
